About SAINIK SCHOOL

The idea for Sainik Schools came from the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) which have given India many service chiefs and the public school system of England. Sainik schools is like ordinary citizen’s public schools, where deserving students can get high-quality education irrespective of their income or class background. Reserved Seats for SC/ST and Serving/Retired Defence personnel children.

Sainik Schools are a network of schools in India that were started in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, who was the Defence Minister of India at the time. When India became independent, most of the officers in the Defence at that time used to come from elite families. The aim was to address two main issues: the lack of representation from different regions and social classes in the officer ranks of the Indian Military, and to prepare students both mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA).

These schools are managed by the Sainik Schools Society (a registered society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860) under the Ministry of Defence. Their purpose is to train young students for careers in the armed forces. They were established to tackle the problem of a lack of diversity in the officer ranks, which were predominantly filled with individuals from elite families.
