RMS CET 2026 AY 2027-28 Notification
Admission to Rashtriya Military Schools at Chail, Ajmer, Belgaum, Bengaluru, and Dholpur for Classes 6 and 9
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the notification for the Rashtriya Military Schools Common Entrance Test (RMS CET) 2026. This centralized OMR-based written exam is the gateway for admission into Class VI and Class IX for the academic session commencing in April 2027.

Important Update for 2026 Admissions: Girls are now officially eligible to apply for Class IX. 10% of total seats across all five Rashtriya Military Schools are reserved for female candidates in both Class VI and Class IX.

RMS CET 2026: Application Fee Structure
General / OBC / OBC (NCL): ₹1000/-
SC / ST / Wards of Personnel Killed in Action (KIA): ₹750/-
Late Fee Penalty: An additional ₹500/- applies across all categories if the application is submitted during the late window (21 to 25 October 2026).
Post-Examination Stages & Results
Stage-I Result Declaration: Expected in January 2027 on the NTA website.
Stage-II (Medical Examinations) & Stage-III (Interviews): Conducted between February and March 2027.
Stage-IV (Final Allotment & Joining Instructions): March 2027.
Joining School: 01 April 2027.
RMS CET 2026: Eligibility Criteria
To appear for the RMS CET 2026 (Academic Session 2027-28), candidates must fulfill the following education and age criteria:
For Class VI Admission:
- Gender: Open to both Boys and Girls.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class V or be studying in Class V and pass it before the date of admission to the Rashtriya Military School.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be aged between 10 to 13 years as of 31 March 2027. (Born between 01 April 2014 and 31 March 2017, both days inclusive).
For Class IX Admission:
- Gender: Open to both Boys and Girls. (Note: Girls are now officially eligible for Class IX admissions).
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class VIII from a government/recognized school before the date of admission.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be aged between 13 to 16 years as of 31 March 2027. (Born between 01 April 2011 and 31 March 2014, both days inclusive).
Important Note on Age: A six-month relaxation in the upper age limit is granted for wards of personnel Killed in Action (KIA). The only acceptable proof of age is a Date of Birth Certificate issued by a Municipal Corporation or an authorized local government body; certificates from a Gram Panchayat will not be accepted
RMS CET 2026: Reservation of Vacancies
Rashtriya Military Schools are exclusively residential. All admissions are into the Boarder category only; no day scholars are allowed. The seat allocation follows a strict reservation policy:
Category-Wise Reservation:
- 70% for wards of JCOs/OR (Serving and Retired of the Army, Air Force, and Navy only).
- 20% for wards of Officers (Serving and Retired of the Army, Air Force, and Navy only). (If officer seats remain vacant, they may be offered to the civilian category in the same academic year).
- 10% for wards of Civilians.
Government of India (Vertical) Reservation:
Within all the categories mentioned, the following constitutional reservations apply:
- 27% for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer).
- 15% for SC.
- 7.5% for ST.
Special Reservations:
Girls: 10% of total seats or a maximum of 30 seats (whichever is less) across all five RMSs for Class VI, and 10% of total seats across all five RMSs for Class IX.
Killed in Action (KIA): A total of 50 seats (with a maximum of 15 in any single school) are strictly earmarked for the wards of Army, Air Force, and Navy personnel Killed in Action.
RMS CET 2026: Stages of Selection
The admission process for Rashtriya Military Schools is strictly based on merit and involves four rigorous stages:
Stage-I (Written Examination): An OMR-based multiple-choice exam conducted by the NTA. DOWNLOAD SAMPLE OMR SHEET
Stage-II (Medical Examination): Candidates shortlisted from the written exam must undergo a medical fitness test at designated Military Hospitals (MH) or Command Hospitals (CH) as per AFMSF-2 standards.
Stage-III (Interview): Medically fit candidates will be called for a personal interview at one of the five Rashtriya Military Schools.
Stage-IV (Final Result & Selection): The final merit list is compiled based on the cumulative scores of the written exam and the interview.
RMS CET 2026: Written Exam Pattern & Qualifying Marks
The written exam is conducted offline (OMR-based) with a total duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes for both classes. There is no negative marking in the RMS CET exam.

Class VI Exam Pattern (Bilingual: English & Hindi)
The Class VI exam is based on the Class V standard syllabus.
- English: 50 Questions | 50 Marks | Minimum 35% to qualify
- (Note: English marks are strictly qualifying and are NOT counted toward the final merit list).
- Intelligence Test: 50 Questions | 50 Marks | Minimum 40% to qualify.
- Mathematics: 50 Questions | 50 Marks | Minimum 40% to qualify.
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs: 50 Questions | 50 Marks | Minimum 40% to qualify.
- Interview Weightage: 20 Marks.
Class IX Exam Pattern (Medium: English Only)
The Class IX exam is based on the Class VIII standard syllabus.
Paper 1 (100 Marks total): English (50 Marks) + Hindi (20 Marks) + Social Science (30 Marks).
Minimum 50% required in Paper 1 to qualify.
Paper 2 (100 Marks total): Mathematics (50 Marks) + Science (50 Marks).
Minimum 50% required in Paper 2 to qualify.
Interview Weightage: 50 Marks.
Merit List & Tie-Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates secure the same total marks, the NTA applies the following strict tie-breaking priority:
Class VI Tie-Breaker: Higher marks in Mathematics -> Intelligence Test -> General Knowledge -> English -> Interview.
Class IX Tie-Breaker: Higher marks in Mathematics -> Science -> English -> Social Science -> Hindi.

RMS CET 2026: Step-by-Step Application Process
The application process for RMS CET 2026 is entirely online and must be completed exclusively through the official NTA portal. No hard copies or offline forms will be accepted.
Step 1: Online Registration: Visit https://exams.nta.nic.in/rmscet/ and register using a valid email ID and mobile number. You will receive a system-generated Registration Number upon successful registration.
Step 2: Fill the Application Form: Log in using your new credentials and fill in your personal details, educational background, and preferences. You can select a maximum of four convenient exam cities based on your state of present or permanent address.
Step 3: Document Upload: Upload all required scanned documents precisely according to NTA guidelines.
Step 4: Fee Payment: Complete the process by paying the required application fee via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. Ensure you download and print the final “Confirmation Page” as proof of a successful application.

The NTA utilizes strict automated checks for document uploads. Ensure your files match these exact specifications before starting your application to avoid cancellation:
Passport Size Photograph: 10 KB to 200 KB in JPG/JPEG format. It must be taken on or after 1st July 2026, featuring 80% face coverage with clearly visible ears against a white background. Spectacles are allowed only if used regularly; caps or dark goggles are prohibited.
Candidate’s Signature: 10 KB to 50 KB in JPG/JPEG format. The signature must be in running handwriting (do not use block/capital letters) signed on white paper with a black ink pen.
Left-Hand Thumb Impression: 10 KB to 50 KB in JPG/JPEG format. Must be clearly affixed on white paper using blue ink.
Required Certificates: Date of Birth Certificate, Domicile Certificate, Category Certificate (SC/ST), and Service Certificate (if applicable) must be uploaded as PDF files ranging from 50 KB to 300 KB.
Exam Day Guidelines: Allowed & Barred Items
To ensure a smooth experience on December 13, 2026, students must strictly adhere to the NTA exam center rules. Extensive frisking will be conducted before entry.
What to Bring (Allowed Items):
- Printed Admit Card (with the Self-Declaration form downloaded from the NTA website).
- A valid and original Photo ID proof.
- A simple, transparent black or blue ballpoint pen.
- One extra passport-size photograph (identical to the uploaded photo) to affix on the attendance sheet.
- Drinking water in a personal, transparent water bottle.
Strictly Barred Items:
- Electronic Devices: Mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, calculators, and pagers are strictly prohibited.
